Road Safety: Why risk at the cost of your life

Almost every day, we read news about the accidents on road which causes fatality. People may have so many reasons but nothing can reason out the loss of precious lives due to one mistake of a distracted driver. Sometimes the drivers himself or herself become victim to their own rash driving or careless driving. Other times, the rash drivers end up hitting another cars or passerby or pedestrians, even causing death at times.

Such fate is always avoidable if only the traffic rules are followed properly by every driver and pedestrians.   A few moment of enjoyment or a few moments of rushing and over speeding can cause you your precious life which you won’t get to live again. You not only risk your life, but also the other innocents’ lives that share the road with you.  

Most commonly the accidents on roads are caused due to:

  • Speeding
  • Drinking and driving
  • Reckless driving (overconfidence)
  • Violation of traffic rules, both by drivers and pedestrians
  • Using cell phones while driving
  • Overloaded vehicles
  • Bad weather conditions
  • Bad road conditions
  • Unsafe road infrastructures
  • Mechanical failures

The causes of accidents are always preventable if the safety precautions are taken by all road users. While the drivers and pedestrians can follow the traffics rules, the government can provide safer road infrastructures and enforce strict rules and regulations.

Even though the government has come forward with better policies on road safety, road accidents have been increasing. According to reports, majority of the road accidents are caused due to irresponsibility of the drivers in India.

Mostly the drivers avoid the safety gears such as wearing helmets and seatbelts which saves lives during accidents if worn. But it is always advisable to take safety measure by all the road users very strictly because you are risking your life by not doing that. Also, the other road users’ lives are also at risk when one road user commits a blunder.

So, drive safely so that you can reach where you are bound to reach, better late than never as they say.
Wear your seatbelts and helmets.
Follow traffic signals.
Never try breaking the laws!
